We need your input into the design of our first ParentCamp!

ParentCamps are opportunities for parents, guardians, mentors, grandparents, educators or anyone involved in a child’s life to come together to ask questions, find resources and build a support system.  Robidoux Middle School  is thrilled to partner with ParentCamp, a national non-profit to bring ParentCamp to our school community.  BUT we need YOUR input.  ParentCamps are designed around participant’s needs - we need to know what you are struggling with or need help with, everything is on the table!  We need you to do two things:

  1. Complete a survey and provide input into the topics which you would like at this link https://forms.gle/zmhN1Dmh5Q36PcKN6 by  Friday 12/10/21.

  2. Save the date!  Our ParentCamp will be on February 1st from 6:30 - 8:00pm. Dinner will be from 6:00-6:30 with Pizza and Pop.

ParentCamp is THE transformational Family-School-Community Engagement Model designed to build a connected school ecosystem of caring and supportive adults surrounding our kids. ParentCamps are not the traditional stand and deliver sessions but facilitated dialogue where the entire room is the expert and everyone brings important and unique perspectives to the table.

The Design of the Traditional Family Engagement Model is Compliance Conditions. Compliance conditions keep people in “lanes” or “silos.” The Design of the ParentCamp Model is two-fold: Equality Conditions plus Purpose. Equality Conditions at a ParentCamp mean every person can be a learner and leader for kids, with the opportunity to go to any session at any time. Equality conditions mean every person can talk, listen, encourage, and connect with others as it feels right to them. Purpose at a ParentCamp means family, school and community decide not only the session topics but also the purposes around the topics–connect, strengthen and collaborate. Purpose is the secret sauce that leads to Family-School-Community Collective Efficacy.

Welcome to a new experience of “Family-School-Community Engagement” where each person can bring their abundant gifts to ParentCamps and together create a world where kids feel happy, healthy and strong. Welcome to a level playing field and a unique family engagement every single ParentCamp. This is how you Transform school culture and education.  One hour at a time.  One ParentCamp at a time.

The importance of parents having a seat at the table with an equal voice was highlighted when the US Department of Health and Human Services, Early Childhood Department, Administration for Children and Families, the US Department of Education and ParentCamp held a joint event to kick-off Radical Family Engagement Week in October of 2020.  It was proven that families, schools and communities can build relationships and collaborate even in a virtual world.

ParentCamps are a series of discussions that include the experiences and perspectives of everyone in the room. Sessions are facilitated discussions rather than prepared presentations.

We hope you will save the date and join us on February 1st from 6:00 - 8:00pm. ParentCamps are always free. Questions may be sent to Mark Weis or Tonya Sharp via email at [email protected] or [email protected] or via phone at 816-671-4350
